Shades of Harassment for Non-supervisors Office and Blue Collar Workers
Harassment in the workplace is still a problem that affects employers and employees across industries. All of our employees deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. In some cases, through microaggressions, co-workers can accidentally offend each other. The cases of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment are increasing yearly. Therefore, employees, whether they are non-supervisory or supervisory, must understand the various Shades of Harassment.
A non-supervisory employee can encounter different forms of harassment. Verbal harassment includes derogatory comments, offensive language or co-workers speaking to them out of a stereotype. Harassment via Social Media and Cyber-harassment are emerging issues.
Unlawful termination claims are becoming common with alleged discrimination in pregnancy, disability, medical conditions, and race. Unfortunately, current diversity training programs do not effectively tackle these issues. Sure, we ought to all respect and appreciate our co-workers. This “should” and “have to” training is turning employees off more than doing any good.
Our web-based training programs explain the Shades of Harassment for Office and Blue-collar Employees in a simple, discovery mode. We promote a culture where employees understand the potential danger that exists for them if they engage in behavior they might not know is against company policy and the law. Our programs are highly interactive so that employees can comfortably discuss or research issues without fear. Adults learn most effectively when they are allowed to have healthy and constructive discussions about these issues. Lecturing, criticizing, reading screen shots or Power Point slides simply DOES not work!
At Parallax Education, we are dedicated to transforming the work environment into a respectful, encouraging, motivating, and inclusive workplace. Additionally, our comprehensive harassment and discrimination prevention training programs are designed by experts to address and reduce incidents of harassment. We ensure people deeply understand what constitutes inappropriate behavior in a workplace and how to prevent it. How many lawsuits have we seen where a supervisor or co-worker accidentally engage in retaliation, for example moving an employee to a different location so they aren’t working with someone they complained about – without noticing that the drive is now more cumbersome to the victim.
The Process Behind Our Program
Our web-based programs of Shades of Harassment for Non-supervisors include reading screens, while a narrator uses different terms to explain the reading. Engaging video then re-enacts what the learner has read and the narrator has discussed to give examples of real workplace situations. How many video training programs (which are not compliant) have we seen where a lecherous looking “harasser” reaches out and grabs an unsuspecting co-worker. It is laughable and does not address the subtlety of what nowadays equals harassment or retaliation. Added to the reading, listening and watching opportunities in our programs, there are also compelling graphics to further create those “aha’s” of real learning. At the end of each module, the learner takes a quiz and if they cannot pass it with an 80% score to verify learning, they are asked to repeat the module and cannot move forward. In this way, we ensure our learners have grasped the content.
We know what you think: if they learn to know the wrong answers in the first test, they can quickly correct them in the second round. So, don’t worry; we ensure the understanding of the learner or employee by taking the utterly randomized test. Each test is random, and learners get a completely different set of questions that cover the same materials they learned from the course.
Therefore, our random test series prevents learners from passing the test through repeated attempts and the process of elimination. Apart from this, it also prevents the learners from sharing the correct answers with their co-workers.
